Ranomafana National Parc

A Refuge for Distinct Biodiversity, Ranomafana is home to the rare Golden Bamboo Lemur, the very reason it was set aside as a protected area. This park also provides refuge to the Critically Endangered Greater Bamboo Lemur; Milne-Edwards’ Sifaka; and a number of other rarer species. In the day, you can hope to see astonishing endemic Birds such as Vanga species, Ground Rollers, Asities, or the elusive Brown Mesite. In the night, the forest reveals its secrets: Geckos with leaf tail, colourful Frogs, many species of Chameleons, and the world’s smallest Lemur – the Rufous Mouse Lemur, one of the Earth’s smallest primates. Botanists will find a wealth of endemic plant species, including the rare Orchids of rainforest ecosystems. Ranomafana includes the Centre ValBio, which is a premier research station, welcoming students and researchers from all over the world, in order to study the unique biodiversity and environment.
