Berenty private Reserve is one of the places wild photographers come and visit. The site is very famous for the dancing Lemur_Sifaka, probably the one to easily get pictures of them walking on the ground. The Reserve also has different types of animals living in the spiny forest.
Early flight to Taolagnaro then drive to Berenty. On the way, the scene amazingly changes: Within a few kilometres, the vegetation switches from tropical evergreen vegetation to a semi-arid type, typical of the South and South western part of Madagascar and which is dominated by different octopus tree species. Stop at Antanivinaky for the best view of this “extraterrestrial” vegetation.
Check in. Lunch at the restaurant of Berenty Lodge.
First forest walk in the afternoon. And evening walk in the spiny forest for nocturnal Lemurs and Chameleons sleeping.
Breakfast then walk in the Gallery Forest to see the typical day Lemurs of Berenty with the main highlight-the Verreaux’s Sifaka and its funny sideway leaping while on the ground.
Here birds are many and easy to see.
Lunch then in the afternoon, walk in the spiny forest to look for more wildlife. Lemurs leaping safely on thorny branches, Madagascar Nightjar on its roosting spot, spider tortoise in its natural habitat, are present here. Some very fat but short Baobabs.
Evening walk in the gallery forest.
After breakfast, a last walk in the Gallery Forest.
Lunch then drive back to Taolagnaro.
Check in. Dinner and night at the Lodge.
After breakfast drive to the Mandena Protected Area with its very rare littoral Forest. Walk in the Forest and visit the nursery of local tree species. Lemurs: the very localized collared brown Lemur is in its natural habitat.
Lunch at Nahampoana Reserve then an afternoon visit for more Lemurs. Drive back to Taolagnaro in late afternoon.
Flight back to Antananarivo.
