Marojejy

A World Heritage Rainforest for Genuine Adventurers and situated in the Northeastern part of Madagascar, Marojejy is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is home to some of the most beautiful tropical rainforest in the country-it is a dream destination for ecologists, keen walkers, and campers. The Park has a series of trails that range from simple promenades through luxuriant lowland rainforests to more challenging pathways that take you into high-altitude cloud forests and jagged peaks, with fantastic views of many ecosystems.
Marojejy is home to 11 species of Lemurs including the critically endangered Silky Sifaka, one of the rarest primates on the planet. Marojejy is also a birdwatchers’ paradise and provides sanctuary for many species of endemic Birds. As for Herpetofauna, Marojejy has the greatest diversity of Reptiles of any reserved areas in Madagascar and includes 17 types of Chameleons, 6 species of leaf-tailed Geckos, and 27 kinds of Snakes – truly one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet.

Quiet, remote and rich in wildlife.
Managed by the NGO Fanamby, this site, in a remote area is a very quiet place to stay. Black Lemur Camp, the name of the Lodge with nice bungalows, nice restaurant serving good food, is a peaceful place located in the middle of nowhere. Even if this protected area is dominated by the dry climate of the North, moist semi-deciduous forest dominates the Andrafiamena Mountain chain, and the wildlife is exceptional ; there are eleven species of Lemurs including the Perrier’s Sifaka which is very black among the other eight Sifakas. There are sixty nine species of Birds, twenty one Reptiles including Chameleons, Geckos, Snakes, and a few Frogs.

In the North part of Madagascar, this tropical rainforest is a volcanic area and the numerous craters form nowadays lakes. Flora and Fauna are exceptional with many local endemics, with seven species of Amphibians, eleven Reptiles with thirteen species of Chameleons, and Lemurs. The site is as well very rich in Birds including the Amber Mountain Rockthrush which is locally endemic.

Daraina is a fascinating village in the North of Madagascar, known for its rich biodiversity, ecotourism, and gold minig history. It is part of the Loky-Manambato protected area, home to the Golden-crowned Sifaka, a rare and endangered species. This forest also provides excellent opportunity to see other species like the Daraina sportive Lemur, Aye aye, and Sanford’s brown Lemur. The site offers a variety of ecotourism activities, making it a fantastic destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
